Eurex Deutschland is a fully integrated, electronic exchange trading platform allowing participants decentralized and standardized market access on a global scale. Eurex exchange members can choose from different connection types to connect to the exchange.

Warrants:

• Warrants are option rights issued (certified) as securities, either a) as an independent portion of a bond with warrants; or b) as a separate security
  
• In the former case, the warrants are issued by the borrower of the bond issue, or banks. The product specifications vary to a great degree
  
• Buying and selling prices for the respective products are usually quoted by the issuer
  
• For private investors, it is generally not possible to sell warrants short, or to use them for strategies such as covered call writing, where a call option is sold against an existing equities position
  

Exchange-traded options:

• Exchange-traded options are developed and admitted to trading by exchanges, such as Eurex Deutschland. The products are standardized as to:
  • Contract sizes, maturity ranges, exercise prices, etc.
    
• Banks and trading houses act as competing market-makers:
  • They provide liquidity by entering binding bid and ask quotes
    
  • Several institutions compete for the best price
    
• Short sales and covered call positions are possible
  • These transactions are subject to margin requirements, where additional collateral must be provided
    
• Price determination for exchange-traded options is completely transparent
  

The Eurex® system is an electronic trading platform - similar to the Xetra® system of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (Frankfurter Wertpapierbörse - FWB). Eurex products can only be bought and sold at Eurex Deutschland. Trading takes place between participants (exchange members), and the contract performance is guaranteed by Eurex Clearing AG as the central counterparty to every transaction.

In cooperation with BÖRSE ONLINE, Germany's leading investor magazine, Eurex Deutschland has been holding seminars in several German cities and in Zurich since the beginning of 2000. Detailed information is available here.

Eurex Deutschland also offers the PC training programs "All about Eurex Futures" and "All about Eurex Options" for self-study purposes. These programs can be ordered through the website of Deutsche Börse AG's Trainingscenter.

Eurex Deutschland provides a derivatives product range and trading/clearing infrastructure for an international client base, serving clients across Europe and in the USA, Asia and Australia. Owing to this international client structure it is quite normal that, at the top end, over 70 percent of traded volumes in certain product groups are generated by non-German-speaking clients. To account for this fact and in line with industry practice, we have decided to publish exclusively in English certain Eurex publications, such as the Eurex E-Newsletter, which primarily address institutional clients.

However, other publications, whose contents tend to address private investors as well, are available in both German and English. This includes, for example, all Eurex strategy brochures, the Risk-Based Margining brochure and the retail section on the Eurex website.

Where equity options are concerned, for instance, the prices published on our website are always based on a single share. If a certain product has a contract size of 100 (e.g. 100 shares), the price must be multiplied by 100 to calculate the price of one contract. Equity index options are quoted in index points, which must be multiplied by the set contract value. Where other product types are concerned, the specifications of the products must be taken into account.
