Eurex First Stock Exchange to Introduce Options on Electricité de France

85% increase in trading volume for options on French stock corporations

The international derivatives market Eurex is further expanding its French equity options product range – as of 5 December, it will be offering equity options on Electricité de France (EdF).The move makes Eurex the first derivatives market to offer liquid and transparent trading in options on EdF only days after the world’s largest IPO of recent years. Eurex will be introducing options on Gaz de France as of the same date.

The new products bring the total of options on European stock corporations listed on Eurex to 174, of which 37 are on French companies. This serves to further reinforce Eurex’s leading position in European equity options. In the first 11 months of this year, the trading volume in equity options on French companies rose by 85 percent in comparison with the previous year to total around 17,000 contracts traded per day. Open Interest rose to 1.3 million contracts, more than triple the figure at the beginning of the year.

Eurex’s market share in exchange-traded options on French companies is currently around 25 percent.
